    Former Upshur County district clerk arrested for government record tampering

    GILMER, Texas ( KETK ) – Nicole Hernandez, the former district clerk for Upshur County was arrested for tampering with government records on Friday, officials said.

    Hernandez’s conduct as district clerk was first investigated by the Upshur County Sheriff’s Office at the request of Upshur County District Attorney Billy Byrd on Aug. 29. Hernandez then resigned from her position on the same day.

    She was arraigned by Precinct 2 Justice of the Peace Lyle Potter and later released from the Upshur County Jail on a $3,500 bond, according to the sheriff’s office.
