    SMALL TOWN LIVE: Van, home of the Oil Festival

    VAN, Texas ( KETK ) – KETK’s Isaac Ramirez was over in Van Zandt County on Thursday visiting the fine folks of Van, home of the Van Oil Festival .

    Isaac got to visit with the interim City Manager, Jeff Hudgens and Mayor pro tempore Ernie Burns to talk about what makes Van special and their upcoming Oil Festival on Oct. 19.

    Oil was found in Van in 1929 and the first oil festival was held 50 years later in 1979. This year’s festival is being held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Van City Park. They’ll have live music, food, carnival games, tournaments, a blood drive, their annual penny toss, Oil Museum tours, the Oil Queen and her court, prizes and more.

    In 2015, the town was hit by a tornado and the community rallied together to help each other recover, spawning #WeAreVan as seen on their water tower.

    Later, Isaac got to visit with Leah Davenport with the Farmhouse Restaurant off Interstate 20. The historic restaurant is known for their assortment of delicious pies and the half of a real 1920’s barn that’s inside the restaurant.
