HARRISON COUNTY, Texas ( KTAL/KMSS ) – An interim Harrison County Tax Assessor has been recently appointed following the death of Veronica King.

Earlier this month, a Harrison County Judge announced King’s death through a Facebook post.

A special meeting to appoint an interim county tax assessor was held on Monday and Liz Cook was chosen.

Cook had been a chief deputy in King’s office for years but decided to retire. Officials said Cook was willing to come out of retirement to help fill in, and she “hit the ground running.” Tuesday was Cook’s first official day.

Harrison County officials anticipate that a permanent replacement will be chosen by January 1, 2025.

The Harrison County office wants to remind the community that King was very loved, so they appreciate people’s thoughtfulness during this time. They continue to ask for grace and patience as they return to serving their residents.
