KETTERING, Ohio (WDTN) — Patients receiving medical treatment at Kettering Health hospitals now have different meal options to choose from.

To assist patients with providing high-fiber and un-processed food, Kettering Health has added new items to the inpatient hospital menu. Individuals ordering from the menu have an opportunity to try the plant-forward meals, which include a vegetarian base and protein.

One of the established changes involved in changes included the salmon stir fry. The meal has been changed to a vegetable stir fry, with a choice of either grilled chicken, salmon, tofu or vegetarian Gardein Chick’n.

“A plant-forward diet provides significant health benefits and contributes to whole-person wellness,” said Kettering Health. “These changes make it easier for Kettering Health patients to try out the diet during their stay.”

According to Chrissie Richards, executive director of Culinary and Nutrition Care at Kettering Health, the organization’s physicians wanted to see the change to benefit the health of patients.

“Nutrition is an essential component in improving patient outcomes, and with this updated menu, we’re finding new ways to support their wellness while they’re in our care,” said Richards.

Kettering Health confirmed that while regular menu items will stay on the menu, the protein choices and seasonal plant-forward specials could vary for some.
