These N.Y. students can get paid to do community service work
STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Gov. Kathy Hochul announced today that the Empire State Service Corps Program application has officially opened. The program, which will establish 500 new “service positions will be created across SUNY’s colleges and universities,” was financed by $2.75 million from the Fiscal Year 2025 enacted budget, a written statement detailed.

The City urged people to celebrate safely and legally by attending fireworks shows at locations with proper approval for launching fireworks. A press release from the Mayor’s office said that fireworks, firecrackers, and bottle rockets are not only illegal but also a significant nuisance. The City has received numerous complaints at both City Council meetings and the Mayor’s office. The City requires that all residents respect their neighbors and the law by not using personal fireworks.

5 Hikers Rescued During New York Heatwave in Sullivan County
A group of hikers needed rescuing in Sullivan County during the extreme heat wave that hit the Hudson Valley this month. If you missed it from June 18th through the 24th the Hudson Valley and New York State were hit with an extreme heatwave. Experts were calling it a heat dome. According to CNN, a heat dome is when air is trapped "in place and bake it with abundant sunshine for days on end, making each day hotter than the last."

The New York State Thruway Authority is celebrating this week as one of the most traveled roads in New York become a little more "convenient" for Hudson Valley drivers. If you've ever found yourself driving on the New York State Thruway you know that every 50 miles or so there are service areas that drivers can use to fuel up, stretch their legs, use the restroom, and or get something to eat. The New York State Thruway Authority (NYSTA) currently has 27 service areas along the 500+ miles of controlled-access toll roads.
