    81-year-old killed in fatal crash on VA-40 in Charlotte County

    CHARLOTTE COUNTY, Va. ( WFXR )– Virginia State Police reports they are currently investigating a fatal crash on the George Washington Highway (VA-40) on Tuesday, June 18.

    VSP says the crash happened at around 9:46 p.m. when a 2010 Mercury Grand Marquis, driven by 81-year-old Louise C. Walton of Keysville, was traveling westbound when the vehicle ran off the right side of the road. She allegedly overcorrected, crossed the centerline, and struck a 2015 Ford Mustang traveling eastbound.

    State police say Walton died at the scene. She was wearing a seat belt.

    The driver of the Mustang also was wearing a seat belt and suffered minor injuries as a result of the crash.

    This crash remains under investigation. WFXR News will update this story as further information is released.
