DEL CITY, Okla. (KFOR) — Del City leaders have turned in more than 5,000 signatures requesting a grand jury investigation into Oklahoma County Commissioner Miles Davidson.

This all stems from the location for the new county jail.

Grand jury investigation request into OK County Commissioner filed

The land at SE 19th and Grand Blvd. in Del City was the site chosen for the new jail. However, questions started to pile up about who owned the land the county purchased, and if there’s a shady connection between the land owner and Davidson.

“We feel like there’s been some wrongdoing there, and we’d just like to sort things out and see what all he’s been up to,” Floyd Eason, Mayor of Del City said.

Mayor Eason says a lack of communication and answers prompted them to start a petition to request a grand jury to investigation into Oklahoma County Commissioner Myles Davidson.

“He hasn’t been forthcoming with freedom of information, The Freedom of Information Act,” Eason said. “He hasn’t provided us the things we’ve asked for. So, we want the grand jury to start asking. I don’t think he’ll turn them down.”

This all goes back to plans for a new county jail. The county purchased the land at SE 19th and Grand Blvd. from Garrett and Company LLC.

Records show an executive from that company donated $2,900 to Davidson’s campaign back in 2022.

“The commissioner should recuse himself from voting on that and he did not,” Eason said. “He also did not disclose that the seller was a friend of his.”

Concerned citizen and Mid-Del School Board member Gina Standridge is also behind the petition.

“It’s been very stressful because it’s been an every day process dealing with fighting that jail and, you know, whether it was lobbying the commissioners or our city council, it was every day, two, three hours a day speaking out for Del City and protecting our students, our families,” Standridge said.

She adds that after fighting this for nearly a year, she hopes to see something done.

“I hope that at the very least, the DA will at least look at it, also to see that the people have spoken,” Standridge said. “The people want an investigation and they want to know why the questions are not being answered.”

Mayor Eason says they hope to hear the grand jury will start an investigation into Miles Davidson, but it could be a while before they know.

As for the new jail location, it is still very much up in the air for where it may go following this.
