    National Weather Service issues excessive heat warning

    NORMAN, Okla. (KFOR) – The National Weather Service Norman issued an excessive heat warning on Tuesday concerning dangerously hot conditions with heat index values up to 113.

    NWS says, portions of Central, East Central, Northern, and Southeast Oklahoma could see an increase in heat related illnesses during the extreme heat and high humidity events.

    According to NWS Norman the excessive heat warning remains in effect until 9:00 p.m. this evening. A heat advisory is also in effect from noon to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday.

    NWS Norman officials have precautionary actions if you find yourself having to go outside saying, “Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors. Do not leave young children and pets in unattended vehicles. Car interiors will reach lethal temperatures in a matter of minutes. Take extra precautions when outside. Wear lightweight and loose fitting clothing. Try to limit strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Take action when you see symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke.”
