OKLAHOMA CITY ( KFOR ) — A family is frustrated after their plan to move into their new home was cut short.

The family moved so the dad could work as a police officer in the metro, but they said on move-in day, the house was “uninhabitable”.

“My family was so excited to get a new start and hopefully make a better life for ourselves,” said Jamie Anderson who’s frustrated with the rental home.

The Anderson’s moved to the metro at the beginning of August.

Jamie Anderson said they were looking to move for a year.

“We saw this house and we thought it was absolutely beautiful,” said Anderson.

Anderson said their beautiful home was anything but that, even though she said management promised them it would be move-in ready.

“The A/C was not working. The first day we were here is 95 degrees. The fridge did not work. The vent on top of the house is completely off allowing rainwater to come in,” said Anderson.

She also said the plumbing was hooked up wrong and the hot and cold water faucets were switched.

The Anderson family tried to call management and maintenance for answers.

“He told us, you know, our supervisor and maintenance will be reaching out to you immediately, immediately they’ll be reaching out to you. I called and called. He told me the same thing every time,” said Anderson.

She said some of the problems were fixed, but something new arose when the A/C started working.

“The ducts that are in the slab, over 50% of them are collapsed. So half of our vents don’t even get air,” says Anderson.

So, the Anderson’s made more calls.

“We haven’t heard anything. I called and I begged and I pleaded with our property manager to please help us,” said Jamie.

Tuesday, she said they got a maintenance message that someone was coming to fix the bathroom fan, but she’s still worried about the other issues.

The Anderson’s have moved out of the home for now as they said it’s too hot to be in the house with their two children.

Home River Group owns the property.

News 4 called the Oklahoma City office , but were told to contact the property manager.

After a call and an email to the manager, we never heard back.

So, News 4 called corporate office and were told the management team doesn’t have a direct phone line, only an email.

After an email to management and another call to the maintenance line, we never got a response.

“We’re just at a loss for words. We don’t know what else to do and we just wish they would do the right thing and not do this to families,” said Anderson.

The Anderson’s along with their lawyer said they have sent a demand letter asking the company to either fix the problems or let them out of their lease.
