    City of Edmond helps “Keep Route 66 Beautiful”

    EDMOND, Okla. (KFOR) – The City of Edmond is gearing up to participate in tire cleanup supporting “Keep Route 66 Beautiful” .

    The event kicks off August 31, residents can drop off old tires for proper disposal at no charge.

    According to Edmond officials, old tires can be brought to the Edmond Electric headquarters, 2004 Old Timbers Drive, from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. Proof of Edmond residency will be required to participate.

    The initiative is driven by a partnership between Keep Oklahoma Beautiful, the Oklahoma Department of Environmental Quality and local businesses in an 11-city collaboration of municipalities along Historic Route 66 between Edmond and Chandler, the City of Edmond says.

    Participants can expect volunteers at each location to assist in the tire collection, and disposal of all materials. The Oklahoma Department of Environmental Quality is scheduled to pick up the reclaimed tires for proper disposal September 9.

    The cleanup is a community-driven to support the efforts in preserving historic highway’s environmental integrity, community engagement and responsibility.
