Police say 58-year-old Daniel Freeman broke into a woman’s home near East Robinson Street and North Porter Avenue in Norman on Tuesday and tied her to a chair.

Freeman then allegedly attempted to withdraw money from the woman’s bank account while driving her car but was unsuccessful. He reportedly returned to her home and forced her to ride with him to the bank to withdraw funds against her will.

According to police, the woman had hired Freeman to complete several projects at her home prior to the incident.

Freeman was arrested without incident on Wednesday, and booked into the Cleveland County Detention Center on complaints of kidnapping, first degree burglary, and robbery.

We spoke with a Norman resident in the area who said she couldn’t believe what happened.

“It’s just unfortunate that something like this were to happen,” Madison Vincent said. “It is very scary.”

When she heard that the woman hired him to do work inside the home, she grew concerned about who you can trust.

“Just because you think someone is safe doesn’t mean that they actually are safe,” Vincent said.

She says that was something you never had to worry about when she was growing up, right down the street from here.

“I grew up always knowing that it was a safe area,” Vincent said. “I’ve never felt uncomfortable.”

But now, she says everyone needs to have their guard up because you never know what could happen.

“I think homeowners in this area and just all around Norman and the state need to be aware of these situations and need to take better precautions,” Vincent said.

Norman Police say the incident is still under investigation.
