NORMAN, Okla. ( KFOR ) – Two toddlers were found dead in a car in Norman Thursday afternoon, police say.

According to the Norman Police Department, officers responded to a neighborhood near W Brooks St. and Flood Ave. around 3 p.m. for a welfare check .

Upon arrival, they found a car stopped in the street. Inside of the car, officers discovered the bodies of two two-year-old children.

Norman PD says the children were accidentally left inside of the car for “an extended period of time” and were later found by family members.

Officials say the medical examiner will determine the official cause of death.

No more information is available as the investigation continues.
