OKLAHOMA CITY ( KFOR ) – The City of Oklahoma City says a water main break that flooded city streets Monday will take overnight work to repair, with no clear indication on when it could be completely fixed.

Line Maintenance crews were out near NW 6th and Penn again Tuesday after the initial break Monday caused flooding and impacted water pressure for neighboring businesses and residents. Special equipment had to be brought in Tuesday, the city says, because the broken main is part of one of the oldest parts of its system.

“It’s definitely unfortunate for the businesses that it will affect,” said local business employee Kaitlyn Jette.

Jette said her commute into work Tuesday was met with shut down roads in some parts and muddy roads in others. News 4 employees noticed several vehicles in the area that had tires caked with it after water from the excess flooding had drained out.

Because of the nature of the break the city says there is no estimate on when the repair will be complete or when normal water pressure flow for all will be restored. There is also no known cause of the break.

Jette said she’s just thankful the water is gone.

“I mean it’s a bit gross, honestly,” said Jette. “Having to step in the water to just be able to get into my car. I mean, you don’t know what’s in there. Definitely couldn’t see through it. It was brown. It was disgusting. It looked like it was sewage is what it looked like.”

Jette described the aftermath as being pretty decent, and thankful crews have been able to get things cleaned up in a timely manner.

News 4 reached out to a city spokesperson for comment and is expecting to hear more from officials Wednesday morning.
