EDMOND, Okla. ( KFOR ) — An Edmond man says he has been charged nearly $7,000 in child support payments by the Oklahoma Department of Human Services (OKDHS) he didn’t need to make.
His child turned 18-years-old and payments were expected to end back in April, however, OKDHS continued to take the payment out of his check each month since.

He has tried to get the issue fixed but hasn’t had any luck, so he turned to News 4 for help.
“It has just gotten to the point where enough is enough,” Holloway said.
Holloway says he finished paying his child support in April and his case should be closed.
“They keep pulling it out of my check,” Holloway said. “There has been like $6,700 taken out.”
He says every time he has tried contacting the Department of Human Services, he gets the runaround.
“It’s really hard to get in touch with anyone at DHS,” Holloway said. “You have to have a caseworker, you have to email the caseworker, and then when they get time, they call you back and never really explains anything. Just excuse after excuse.”
That is until News 4 got involved.
“I didn’t think they would even call me, but they did, like 15 minutes after I talked to you,” Holloway said.
It is a phone call he has been waiting months for, OKDHS apologizing to him and saying they will fix it.
News 4 reached out to the Department of Human Services and they sent us this statement.
Oklahoma Human Services understands that consistent child support payments are crucial for families’ well-being and independence. The delay in closing Mr. Holloway’s case was caused by several issues. The agency is working directly with Mr. Holloway and is committed to closing his case properly. We have taken extra steps to contact his employer to speed up the termination of the withholding and have refunded Mr. Holloway’s payments.

Both OKDHS and Holloway said they are refunding him the $6,700. Holloway says it is all thanks for News 4.
“Thank you to News 4 and the In Your Corner team for helping out,” Holloway said. “It’s been an amazing past three days.”
Holloway says the refund is expected to hit his bank account sometime next week. News 4 will check back to make sure.
