OKLAHOMA CITY (KFOR) — You will want to watch the skies Tuesday evening for a Supermoon Partial Lunar Eclipse.

In Oklahoma there will be a small portion of the moon covered by the Earth’s shadow.

KFOR Meteorologist Emily Sutton says this means you might see a sliver of the moon with a reddish hue.

The peak time is 9:44 p.m.

According to NASA, the term “supermoon” was coined by astrologer Richard Nolle in 1979 as either a new or full Moon that occurs when the Moon is within 90% of its closest to Earth.

This full moon is known as the “harvest moon.

Sutton also says that you do not need protective eyewear as that is only necessary for solar eclipses.
