OKLAHOMA CITY (KFOR) – Oklahoma State Treasurer Todd Russ is reminding Oklahomans to take advantage of its free and secure site offering information on unclaimed assets and forgotten funds that are overlooked as a financial lifeline.

According to the Oklahoma State Treasurer’s Office , the assets can range from bank accounts and mineral rights to jewelry and insurance payouts that may been forgotten or abandoned by Oklahomans.

“Oklahoma has over $1 billion in unclaimed personal property waiting to be returned to its rightful owners,” Treasurer Russ shared. “Each year, we manage to return between $35 million and $50 million, but a significant amount remains unclaimed. We put in a lot of effort to advertise and spread the word, but there’s still much work to be done.”

Treasurer Russ says Oklahomans should be mindful in checking the free and secure site regularly for unclaimed property and see if your name is associated with any unclaimed money.

How to Check for Unclaimed Property in Oklahoma:

    • Visit the Oklahoma Unclaimed Property website at yourmoney.ok.gov.
    • Enter your name in the search bar to see if there are any matches.
    • Review the results to see if any unclaimed property belongs to you.
    • Be sure to check for friends and family — it doesn’t hurt to make sure all financial assets are in order.
    • If you discover you have a claim, click on your name and start the process online. You will fill out a form and submit it with a copy of your driver’s license and social security number.
