OKLAHOMA CITY ( KFOR ) — Some areas across the metro saw baseball-sized hail in Tuesday’s storms and the aftermath has left some homeowners wondering what to do about their damaged roof.

Mark Green lives in Northwest Oklahoma City and says his roof now has to be replaced.

“We ended up with significant damage to our roof,” says Green.

McIntyre Law Chopper 4 captured the impact across town. Some homes had blue tarp covering their roofs, others with busted solar panels and broken skylights.

Green says he looked at his roof in shock.

“You know, it’s pretty much shot,” says Green. “One minute it’s bright and sunny, and the next minute it’s tornadoes or hail.”

If you have a damaged roof, Jeff Whitson, a Public Adjuster at Brown O’Haver, says to call a licensed contractor.

“Usually if you see anything larger than golf ball sized hail, that’s a pretty good indicator that there’s some pretty heavy damage to your roof,” says Whitson.

He says if you have insurance and decide to file a claim, to be aware, because it may take time.

Whitson says, “For residential properties, you are probably looking at a few months to get the claim resolved.”

Whitson adds, “With the hail event that we had yesterday, anybody that is in the path of the storm should be covered.”
