MULDROW, Okla. (KNWA/KFTA) — An Oklahoma man pleaded guilty to arson in Indian Country on Wednesday, according to a news release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Oklahoma.

Trevor McGuire, 24, was set to begin his trial on November 5 but pleaded guilty during a court appearance on October 2.

A probable cause affidavit said on May 26, Muldrow Police and Fire Department responded to a structure fire call on NE Brasfield Road, which is within the boundaries of the Cherokee Nation Reservation.

Court documents said a woman spoke to McGuire in an eight-minute conversation. At the end of the conversation, McGuire said he burned the residence down, according to the affidavit.

McGuire was interviewed and told authorities that he was upset with the woman, whom he was in a relationship with because she sent a recording to him by accident. The affidavit said McGuire could hear her having sex with her ex-husband.

He became angry and bought gas at a convenience store in a gallon milk jug. McGuire returned to the home and poured gas onto the floor before lighting it and walking out the front door, the affidavit said.

McGuire told authorities he was sorry. He said he was upset and wasn’t thinking when he set the house on fire.

The arson charge came from an investigation done by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the Muldrow Police Department.

The release said McGuire will stay in U.S. Marshal custody pending sentencing.
