MUSTANG, Okla. ( KFOR ) – More details have been released after a Mustang first grader brought a loaded gun onto a school bus Monday morning .

According to Mustang Public Schools, the incident involved a first grader at Prairie View Elementary School. Documents from the Canadian County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) say the child told investigators he got the gun from a box inside his parents’ closet.

The report goes on to say the child’s mother didn’t arrive at the school until three hours after she was called. When she arrived, she allegedly brought up bullying and said her son was concerned for a friend’s safety. She later confirmed the gun was hers and had purchased it from a dealer at the state fair in 2023.

According to CCSO, the case has been handed off to the District Attorney’s Office to determine whether charges should be filed.
