Buffalo National River issuing fire restrictions due to drought conditions

HARRISON, Ark. (KNWA/KFTA) — The Buffalo National River says it is issuing fire restrictions inside its park due to dry conditions across the area.

The park said in a news release that as of October 17, lighting or maintaining a campfire within the boundaries of Buffalo National River is prohibited except in these locations:

• Within designated campgrounds with established campfire grates/rings
• On gravel bars in areas that are naturally devoid of vegetation

BNR said that free-standing charcoal or gas grills can be used in day-use picnic areas and developed campgrounds.

No restrictions have been given on the use of propane or liquid-fueled stoves and lanterns.

“Please use care when igniting a fire in the permitted areas, do not leave it unattended, and keep water nearby,” the park said. “Build a fire that is of a reasonable size and be sure to properly extinguish the fire before you depart your site or go to bed.”
