BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — A semi-truck fire on Highway 58 near Mojave forced lane closures briefly Saturday evening.

On August 3, the Kern County Fire Department responded to a semi-fire that required a hazmat response on Highway 58, just east of the Mojave Weigh Station. The fire quickly spread to nearby vegetation before firefighters put the flames out. Hazmat teams determined the semi-fire to be toxic due to fertilizer, which then led to CHP shutting down both directions of travel for a period of time, according to the Kern County Fire Department.

One firefighter suffered minor injuries and was transported to an area hospital for treatment.
