    Suspect fatally shot in Onyx after deputies investigate restraining order violation

    BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — One person was fatally shot in Onyx by a Kern County deputy during an investigation into a possible restraining order violation Wednesday morning, according to officials.

    Kern County sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to the 8000 block of Melody Lane in Onyx to investigate a restraining order violation around 8 a.m., officials said in a release.

    Officials said deputies determined the suspect had multiple felony warrants.

    The suspect was located in a camping trailer to the rear of the property on Melody Lane. “Deputies attempted to make contact and an officer-involved shooting occurred,” according to a release.

    Officials say, one deputy was involved in the incident and the deputy was not injured.

    The suspect was detained for outstanding warrants. Officials say the suspect was pronounced dead at the scene by medical personnel.

    The identity of the suspect will be released at a later time by the Kern County Coroner’s Office.

    KCSO officials later said the suspect involved in this incident was armed with a firearm.

    No other information of the incident was released. KCSO officials did not say if the suspect was armed or what prompted the deputy to fire. Officials also did not specify if the suspect was male or female.
