Portion of Hwy 166 near Maricopa to close for construction, repairs

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — A portion of Highway 166 near Maricopa will be closed to traffic this weekend due to construction and repairs.

Caltrans said the road work will force the closures along Highway 166 beginning Aug. 16 beginning at 6 p.m. through Monday, Aug. 19 at 6 p.m.

Officials said the work includes work on the pavement, installation of drainage just east of Short Road, just east of Pentland Road, and reconstruction of the intersection of Highway 166 and Basic School Road.

Signs for detours will be in place, telling drivers to use northbound Highway 33 to eastbound Highway 119 connecting to Interstate 5. Drivers would also use Interstate 5 to reach Highway 33.

Alternate routes for residents and businesses will be available along Highway 166 for local traffic, Caltrans said.

More weekend road work and needed closures are tentatively scheduled for Aug. 23 through Aug. 26, but Caltrans has not finalized those details.
