BPD closes investigation into ex-Wasco mayor

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — Bakersfield police closed an investigation into former Wasco mayor Alex Garcia after repeatedly attempting to contact those involved in a video that circulated widely on social media.

“We’ve made multiple attempts to contact all of the involved parties, none are willing to cooperate,” Sgt. Eric Celedon said in an email Friday.

“This has left us unable to conduct any further investigation,” he said. “The case has been closed.”

Garcia resigned on Aug. 1 , saying he had no choice given accusations of illegal conduct made against him in the video, which shows him confronted by two people who appeared to have set up a sting operation. Garcia was slapped during the altercation.

The city council last week voted in Valentin Medina as mayor .
