(FOX40.COM) — An illegal firearm that was discovered in the back of an Uber led to the arrest of the passenger.

On July 23, an Uber driver picked up a man in Yuba City and drove him to Oroville. After the passenger exited the Uber, the driver reportedly found a gun in the back of the vehicle and called law enforcement.

Butte County Sheriff’s Office deputies said they collected the firearm and video surveillance from inside the vehicle.

After an investigation, detectives said they found enough evidence to identify the suspect as an “an active member of a criminal street gang” who dropped the firearm.

On Aug. 13, the suspect was located and arrested in connection to being a prohibited person in possession of a firearm and ammunition. He was booked into the Butte County Jail.
