BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — Generating over $100 billion a year, California is home to over 800,000 Hispanic-owned businesses.

For the past 46 years, the California Hispanic Chambers of Commerce has focused on continually growing this number.

Bakersfield was chosen as the host for the 45th year of the convention and organizers say it wasn’t an easy task.

“Oh, it took a village…it took the Kern County Board of Supervisors, it took the City Council, it took the Mayor, the City Attorney,” said Jay Tamsi, CEO and President of Kern County Hispanic Chamber of Commerce. “We all worked together with the State Chamber.”

The Hispanic Chamber had to convince the State Chamber how good of a host Bakersfield could be for the 2024 convention when compared to other central region cities, and its attractions spoke for themselves.

“The affordability of the hotel, the food, all of the restaurants that we have to offer downtown,” said Jay Tamsi. “The historical Crystal Palace…to the Kern River.”

The convention expects over a thousand executives, entrepreneurs, elected officials, corporate and community leaders from across the U.S. The convention could leads to creating many business relations and tax revenue to Kern.
