BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — It’s the fourth and final day of the Democratic National Convention, which has been filled with notable speakers like Oprah Winfrey, former President Bill Clinton and on Thursday tonight, the Democratic presidential nominee herself — Kamala Harris.

And some of Kern County’s own are among the crowd.

You may have seen them on your TVs, front and center with California leaders like Governor Gavin Newsom and Attorney General Rob Bonta — delegates Dolores Huerta and Jesse Aguilar are on the convention floor.

What to know about VP candidate Tim Walz’s family

Both said the convention has been all about party unity, especially following President Joe Biden’s symbolic and formal “passing of the torch” to Vice President Kamala Harris.

“I’m very proud and honored to serve the Central Valley of California, where all the food comes from that’s feeding so many of the delegates here at this convention,” said civil rights activist and superdelegate Dolores Huerta.

“One of our own from California is going to be the next President of the United States of America. All of excitement, the unity, the joy, it’s just really amazing,” she said.

Fellow Kern delegate Jesse Aguilar echoed the same emotions.

“It’s a different vibe,” he said. “Everyone’s really energized, unified, and really, I think everyone really sees the danger involved in our country … Showing the humanity of this ticket, and that this ticket really does care about the folks who work day-to-day.”

Dolores Huerta says she’s been to every convention except one since 1968.

Huerta is a super delegate — considered a party leader with an automatic seat to all conventions.
