BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — A man who pleaded no contest to driving drunk in a crash that injured multiple people was sentenced Friday to four years and four months in prison.

Police said Daniel Navarette, 40, caused the crash in April by running a red light — and was fleeing another crash being investigated by the California Highway Patrol.

He pleaded no contest last month and charges of hit-and-run resulting in property damage and reckless driving were dismissed.

The crash happened in the area of Baker and Sumner streets and involved three motor vehicles and a bicycle. One person suffered broken ribs and another had soft tissue injuries, an attorney said during a prior court hearing.

At the time of the crash, Navarette was out on bail in connection with a deadly crash in Ridgecrest in which a misdemeanor charge of vehicular manslaughter was filed in 2021. Alcohol was not involved in that incident.
