    BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — The Arbor Day Foundation has named Bakersfield a 2023 Tree City.

    The award recognizes the City’s commitment to effective urban forest management.

    Being named a Tree City requires four steps:

    • Maintaining a tree board or department.
    • Having a tree care ordinance.
    • An annual community forestry budget of at least $2 per capita.
    • Hosting an Arbor Day observance and proclamation.
