Scores: Week 1 of the 2024 high school football season

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — Football is back. The 2024 high school football season begins this week for schools in Kern County.

The new season brings some big changes — like new coach Rich Bolin taking over the mighty Liberty High School program from Bryan Nixon, and Paul Golla taking over the reigns at Independence High School.

Programs like Wasco HS and Shafter HS are hoping to keep things going from last season. Wasco and Shafter fell just short of their own expectations, with Wasco falling just short in their state title game and Shafter suffering another heartbreak end to a season in the state semifinal.

And already in the early 2024 season — history. Del Oro High School won its very first varsity football game in the the program’s history on Aug. 22 defeating Chavez 28-23.
