BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — Angel Rodriguez had faced the possibility of life behind bars when charged with murder and attempted murder in a deadly shooting at Panorama Park.

    On Tuesday, his fortunes changed.

Man convicted of trafficking girl, 15, asks judge for mercy, says she lied about her age

Rodriguez pleaded no contest to being a felon in possession of a gun and allowing another person to fire a gun from his vehicle. All other charges were dismissed.

Rodriguez, 24, will receive a 16-month sentence, said defense attorney Tony Lidgett. Sentencing is scheduled Sept. 25.

The events leading to Rodriguez’s arrest occurred the night of April 19, when a group of people swarmed a Chevy Tahoe in the parking lot of the northeast Bakersfield park.

The driver and rear passenger pulled guns and fired, police said in a court filing.

Ronald Josue Rivera Hernandez, 24, was hit multiple times. He died at the scene.

Someone in the crowd returned fire and the driver hit the gas and attempted to run down a member of the group as the SUV sped away, police said.

The Chevy was found abandoned but a records check showed it was registered to Rodriguez. He was arrested May 14.
