BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — Happy birthday to World War II veteran, Everett Williams!

Kern County native and World War II veteran, Everett Williams, celebrated his 100th birthday Wednesday with friends and family at his side. Williams was just 20 when he was drafted into the U.S. Army Air Corps, and went on to serve as a mechanical engine specialist on a B-29 bomber.

He flew 27 missions over Tokyo during the war, some of them during daylight.

“I didn’t think I’d ever live to be 21,” said Williams. “Here I am 100.”

Several local dignitaries were in attendance for the celebration, as Williams received special honors from Bakersfield Mayor Karen Goh and Hanford Congressman David Valadao.
