BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — The City of Bakersfield`s Job Fair returned for 2024, after over 1,400 job seekers attended last year. Prospective candidates got an opportunity to learn and apply for the more than 100 available positions with the city.

City accounting specialist, Jessica Megia, said over 100 people have come up to her booth.

“I would say roughly about 200, 300 people today,” said Megia. “We’ve had a lot of people today…it’s been a really good outcome.”

This year’s fair slogan is “The sound of success”.

“I’m hoping to get some different resources and take a look at what the city has to offer, and hopefully, if it happens,” said Angelica Armenta, a job seeker.

That was the mindset of hundreds of applicants coming through Mechanics Bank Arena, which featured jobs with a ton of different departments.

Willie Nichols, a lifetime Bakersfield resident, is looking for a change in his career, and hopes to work for the city. Nichols was searching for jobs in construction and inspections.

While Nichols was looking for a career change, some have been unemployed and hope that this job fair can put them on a career path, like Dennis Johnson, applying for a maintenance tech position.

“I’ve done maintenance over 45 years, I guess maybe longer,” said Johnson. “Oh very important, I’m running out of unemployment.”

If you want to apply for a city job go to Bakersfieldcity.us , or you can go down to the Human Resources Department located at City Hall.

I went to five booths to be told there were no open positions, and to keep checking online for when they open. They were helpful enough to give me a QR code on a business card I can scan so I don't have to manually type in the URL. What a waste of time
