BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — A federal grand jury has indicted a Bakersfield man who authorities say was in possession of a destructive device.

Robert Lawrence Hunt, 40, was indicted last week on three counts — being a felon in possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of an unregistered firearm and manufacturing a firearm.

Federal prosecutors say in a release that Hunt in July 2022 “possessed a destructive device that consisted of parts designed for conversion into an explosive and incendiary device containing screws, which meet the federal definition of a firearm.”

If convicted, Hunt faces a maximum penalty of more than a decade in prison and a $250,000 fine. The FBI conducted the investigation with help from the Bakersfield Police Department, the release says.
