BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — Police destroyed hundreds of marijuana plants found at a home in East Bakersfield after being led there by information found at another residence a short distance away.

Detectives last month cut a total of 345 marijuana plants located inside a home in the 1200 block of Pacific Street, according to a court filing.

That residence wasn’t their initial target.

Police at first had their focus on a home being leased to two people on Monterey Street. They searched it Aug. 8 and found a number of marijuana plants, fans, fertilizers and carbon dioxide tanks — items “consistent with a sophisticated marijuana grow operation,” according to the filing.

The tenants weren’t there during the search, the filing says, but the property owner was and said they had no idea the place was being used to grow marijuana.

Four days later, police learned the tenants had returned and removed the equipment used in the operation.

That evidence was gone, but investigators looked at a package — with the Pacific Street address — that had arrived for one of the tenants.

Police went there and found signs of a possible grow inside, according to the filing. They then obtained a warrant and located and destroyed the plants.
