‘Festival Del Mariachi’ returns to Kern, brings music & folklorico workshops

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — The “3rd Annual Festival Del Mariachi” is coming to the Fox Theater on September 7, but that’s just the grand finale to a day dedicated to celebrating Mexican culture.

Saturday will be devoted to enhancing the lives of around 400 local mariachi students.

The day will kick-off a series of mariachi and folklorico dance workshops at Arvin High beginning at 8 a.m. The event will pair California and Nevada students with mariachi musicians and aspiring folklorico dancers.

The United Way of Central Eastern California has provided scholarships for students to participate and refine their artistic skills under the guidance of world-renowned Mariachi Nuevo Tecalitlán, Nuevo Tecalitlán – female group, Mariachi San Marcos, and ballet Folklorico Huaztecalli.

The workshops will conclude with a music jam between students and professional musicians.

The workshops will run from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Arvin High, located at , 900 Varsity Road. While the finale to the Mariachi concert will be held at the Historic Fox theater from 7 to 11 p.m.
