    Coroner ID’s man in possession of homemade bomb

    BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — The Kern County Coroner’s Office identified a man who was in possession of a homemade explosive device in a vehicle.

    Coroner officials say Julian Nicholas Ramirez, 31, of Bakersfield was inside a vehicle in the 600 block of Dolores Street on Aug. 2 when he suffered bomb blast injuries.

    Officials with the police department told 17 News officers responded to the area for an explosion and vehicle fire.

    Police say Ramirez was found in possession of what appeared to be a homemade explosive device. The device detonated when he was in the vehicle.

    The fire was contained to the vehicle and no other injuries were reported.

    The manner of his death was an accident, according to coroner officials.
