BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — A man accused of pepper-spraying a deputy last week during a traffic stop, resulting in shots being fired, was taken into custody early Saturday during an incident in which he again resisted arrest by using pepper spray — injuring a K-9, according to sheriff’s officials.

Christian Dumas, 23, is being held without bail and is due in court Tuesday.

2nd arrest made in 2022 fatal Delano drive-by, deputies say

According to sheriff’s officials, deputies on Sept. 2 stopped a vehicle at the Motel 6 on Olive Tree Court. The passenger, identified as Dumas, used pepper spray and shots were fired, officials said. He managed to get away.

He was arrested around 2 a.m. Saturday — and didn’t go quietly, officials said. He was booked on suspicion of several new crimes in connection with his arrest, among them using tear gas on a peace officer and harming a K-9.

Dumas had two active felony warrants out for his arrest before the incident.
