Drug charge dismissed against ex-BPD officer

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — A misdemeanor drug possession charge was dismissed Tuesday against a former Bakersfield police officer after he pleaded no contest in June for deferred entry of judgment, according to court records.

DeAngelo Sanchez completed certain requirements and stayed out of trouble for the past three months, allowing him to get the charge dismissed.

Sanchez was employed by BPD when authorities in November executed search warrants at multiple homes — including one where he rented a room from an Arvin police sergeant.

Sanchez wasn’t home at the time the warrant was served. Authorities say steroids were found in his room.

He resigned the same day, police officials said.

The warrants sought the arrest of Francisco Javier Beltran by federal authorities on charges of conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine and fentanyl, according to the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration. Beltran pleaded guilty in federal court and sentencing is set for Sept. 25.

A separate investigation by the Kern County Sheriff’s Office resulted in the arrest of Arvin Sgt. Delia Reyes.

Reyes was charged in Superior Court with drug possession while armed with a loaded gun, a felony, and two misdemeanor drug offenses. Authorities said a usable amount of cocaine was found in the home. Reyes has a preliminary hearing scheduled next month.
