BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — Prosecutors have made a plea offer to one of the defendants in the 2017 shooting death of 5-year-old Kason Guyton. A decision on whether it will be accepted is expected to be announced Wednesday afternoon.

The offer was made to Jeremy King, who was not the shooter, said King attorney Andrew Flier of Encino-based Levine, Flier and Flier.

Without going into the specifics of the deal, Flier said the offer is for a “high number” but the murder charge would be dismissed. King would no longer have a life term hanging over him.

King and co-defendant Jonathan Knight are charged with multiple crimes in the Feb. 23, 2017, shooting that killed Kason and wounded his 7-year-old brother.

The brothers were heading home from Maya Cinemas in a car driven by their mother’s boyfriend — a member of the East Side Crips — as a dark sedan followed.

As the car the boys were in turned west onto California Avenue from S Street, a passenger in the sedan leaned out the front window and opened fire, police said. It’s believed the boyfriend was the intended target. He was unharmed.
