FRESNO, Calif. ( KSEE/KGPE ) – Want to see the new baby elephants recently born at the Fresno Chaffee Zoo? Now you can!

Zoo officials announced Thursday morning that the newest additions to the elephant herd will finally be shown to the public starting Friday, September 13.

The zoo celebrated a historic moment when the African elephant Nolwazi gave birth to a male calf on August 16. The zoo director said that the birth marked the “first elephant calf born in the zoo’s 95-year history.” Just a little over a week later on August 26, first-time mom Amahle also gave birth to a healthy male calf.

Both the moms and calves were previously behind-the-scenes at Fresno Chaffee Zoo receiving around-the-clock care from the zoo’s veterinary and animal care teams.

The calves will be viewable starting Friday from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m., according to the zoo.

Zoo officials say the best viewing areas are from Kopje Lodge and down Tembo Trail.
