BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — A man accused in a deadly shooting on Lloyd Street has hired private counsel.

Defense attorney Tony Lidgett now represents Rodrigo Lara, who’s charged with first-degree murder, possession of a gun and ammunition by a felon and gang conspiracy.

Lidgett on Friday took over from the Public Defender’s Office.

Lara, 31, is being held without bail. A preliminary hearing is scheduled in November.

On Aug. 25, police went to the 400 block of Lloyd Street — north of Brundage Lane and east of Union Avenue — after a ShotSpotter activation registered eight gunshots. They found a man in a driveway suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.

He was pronounced dead at the scene . The coroner’s office has not released his name.

Lara was arrested Aug. 30. He has previously been convicted of charges including battery with serious injury and drug possession while armed with a loaded gun, according to court records.
