SAN DIEGO (Border Report) — Fans of the wildly popular and beloved “El Chavo del 8” comedy series will soon be able to see all the episodes on television once again, according to Televisa, the Mexican network that began airing the show in 1973.

The series, created by Roberto Mario Gómez Bolaños, known as Chespirito, or Little Shakespeare, went off the air following his death as his family and the network fought over the rights to the show.

His wife, Florinda Meza, made the announcement on X, saying, “We did it, the program is returning.”

Florinda Meza, wife of “Chespirito” announced on her X account that the show is returning to television.

Starting Oct. 16, the show’s 273 episodes will start running on Televisa’s Channel 2, known as the “channel of the stars.” Two episodes will be televised per week at 1:30 p.m. CT.

Episodes will also be available on ViX, a streaming service owned by the network.

“El Chavo del 8” was based on an orphan who lived in a barrel that was located on a patio inside a small apartment complex in a poor area of Mexico City.

Over time, according to media critics, the show has earned an estimated $1.7 billion in syndication fees.
