BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — Three Bakersfield fire stations received a new fire engine.

The department gave 17 News an exclusive look at the new engines, which are headed to Bakersfield Fire Department stations 4, 7 and 13.

Officials say those are some of the busiest stations in the city, with each getting more than 3,500 calls for service each year.

The old engines had been in service for more than 18 years, and officials say it was time for an upgrade.

“Really, its about reliability. As our fire engines get that wear and tear over the full life span of the fire engines, there’s a lot of repairs and maintenance that has to be performed. When we get a brand new engine the repairs are less frequent, so they’re able to stay in their district,” Bakersfield Fire Department Chief John Frando said.

Just one of the fire engines is about $900,000.
