Large sheriff’s office presence at Mountain View Elementary after district said shooting threats were not credible

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — A large Kern County Sheriff’s Office presence was seen at Mountain View Elementary School Monday for a follow up investigation after threats of school shooting were not found credible.

The Lamont Elementary School District sent letters to parents over the weekend after multiple schools were named in a post that circulated social media. Superintendent Dr. Lori Gonzalez said Monday the district was working to dispel any social media rumors of a possible threat.

A report of a suspicious person possibly armed in the parking lot of the school on Monday was also found to not be credible, according to the Kern County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies cleared the campus and determined there was no one injured or any evidence of any type of shooting or armed suspect. A Kern County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson said deputies were in the area for follow-up investigation on a call for service on Monday morning.

Mountain View Middle School officials said school staff was notified of a possible threat that was made by a student via Instagram. Officials immediately notified law enforcement about the threat.

Our team acted swiftly to notify law enforcement who found the threat to be a generic, recycled post that was found to be not credible in the early 2000s. Our Students and staff are all safe.

School officials urge the community to report any suspicious activity to police and encouraged parents and guardians to have conversations with students about what not to post to social media.

“Remember, if you see or hear something concerning, please report it to the school administration or staff immediately,” Gonzalez said in the letter to parents.
