BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — Tension built at Arvin City Council’s meeting Tuesday with residents demanding to know why its taking so long to fill vacant seat.

No action was taken for an appointment to fill the vacancy left by the resignation of council member Juan Murillo. Murillo was not in attendance at Tuesday’s meeting either.

Residents said they’re upset with the council and their decisions, or lack thereof.

Arvin City Attorney, Nathan Hodges explained there’s only so much officials can do.

“So it’s basically up for appointment, however to do an appointment one council member that has previously been appointed would have to resign. Otherwise there would be a majority of council members who have been appointed and the law doesn’t allow that.”

Mayor Daniel Borreli, and Council member Tim Tarver were both appointed, but both said they have no plans to step down.

Time’s ticks away as council members have until November 6, to decide the next step.

The next Arvin Council meeting is set for Tuesday, Oct. 1.
