BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — In Washington, David Valadao introduced a bipartisan resolution on Wednesday in hopes of designating Nov. 12 as Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease Awareness Day.

Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease (CJD) is a rare brain disease that can cause rapid decline in a person’s cognitive health and can often lead to death. Former Bakersfield Mayor Harvey Hall died from complications with CJD back in 2018 and Valadao noted his relationship with Hall as well as what he meant to the Bakersfield community.

“I’m proud to introduce this bipartisan resolution to designate Nov. 12 as CJD Awareness Day to honor Mayor Hall’s memory and help raise awareness for CJD patients and their families across the country,” Valadao said.

Valadao was joined by Congressman Vince Fong and others during the introduction of the resolution.

“Everyone in Bakersfield knows the influence late Mayor Harvey Hall had on our community, and of the lasting impact he left,” said Fong.
