BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — A group of local veterans is heading to Washington, D.C., Tuesday morning for the 50th Kern County Honor Flight.

Among those travelling is 17 News’ Chief Forecaster Kevin Charette, who will accompany the veterans on their journey to the nation’s capital.

“It’s unbelievable to think we’ve reached the 50th Honor Flight,” said Lili Marsh, founder of Honor Flight Kern County. “This wouldn’t have been possible without the incredible support of our volunteers and donors. This community has truly made it happen.”

Over 100 veterans are participating in this milestone fight, including four World War II veterans. One of the veterans on board is a Pearl Harbor survivor who was only 17 years old at the time of the attack.

Stay tuned for more updates on their memorable journey as they visit the nation’s memorials dedicated to their service and sacrifice.
