BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — After matching our record of 103 degrees yesterday afternoon, Bakersfield is still under a heat advisory today with air quality that is unhealthy for everyone.

We’re facing another afternoon in the triple digits, with a forecast high of 100 this afternoon. If we hit that mark, this makes it an official heatwave, and that’s only the fifth time we’ve seen an October heatwave since we began keeping records more than a century ago.

Expect more 100s in the Kern river Valley and Kern Desert too, while the south mountains are sunny and stagnant with low 90s in Tehachapi and Frazier Park today.

Bakersfield’s slow fall to the 90s this weekend is still well above average, as we’re typically in the mid-80s for this time of year.

Though the low 90s returns for next week, unfortunately, there’s no rain in our extended forecast… and no dramatic cooling coming any time soon.
