Co-defendant Jeremy King has accepted a plea deal. He testified he drove the car from which Knight fired, apparently targeting a rival gang member driving another vehicle but accidentally hitting the children seated in the back seat.

On Tuesday, prosecutor Eric Smith played wiretapped conversations between Knight and a girlfriend, and also showed the jury a video of the initial interview detectives had with Knight in which they tell him they heard he was involved in the shooting.

An altercation at Valley Plaza mall that involved Knight and King and rival gang members prompted the shooting, Smith has said. Knight and King, affiliated with the West Side Crips, left the mall and later that night drove around looking for an East Side Crip to shoot, he said.
